Draenor Pathfinder Series – Explore Draenor Achievement

Explore Draenor is a set of individual exploration achievements comprised of exploring each of the six Draenor zones excluding Tanaan Jungle. Completion of this achievement is required to complete the Draenor Pathfinder achievement needed to gain the ability to use flying mounts inside of the Draenor zones. In this article I will discuss each of the zones, the tricks to find some tricky areas and the use of TomTom as an add-on to assist in your completion of the achievement.

Explore Draenor Achievement General Info

You would think this would be an easy, almost a free-be, series of achievements and you would be right except for a few spots. One of the biggest things to remember here is travel time and also focusing on the Master Treasure Hunter achievement while you’re already running around each zone.

The use of TomTom as an Add-On is extremely valuable in this set of achievements and also using HandyNotes Draenor Treasures will make it so you can easily find many of the world treasures at the same time which will save you time and frustration. Also remember that each zone has at least one level 100 “area” inside it, so while you may be in Frostfire Ridge, you still run into, and usually have to at least step into a level 100 area with elite mobs and tricky paths. I only say this because if you are on a healing character or a fresh level 100 character with poor gear, you need to pay attention or you risk making a death run back to your corpse that is smack in the middle of high-level mobs.

Also as stated above, each zone must be explored by the same character however another level appropriate character on the same account can explore another zone and have it count toward the account-wide Explore Draenor achievement. For example, character 1 can complete the Explore Frostfire Ridge achievement and character 2 can complete the Explore Gorgrond achievement and have it count toward Explore Draenor on your account. So if you did a lot of questing in a zone with one character, it might be better for you to look at each character you have and pick the ones that have most of the zone done already instead of having to run across the whole zone on a character that doesn’t have that zone uncovered.

However on the flip side, while you are running around each zone you’ll also be (if you follow my advice) using HandyNotes to uncover treasures in that zone, so using a character that is more geared will usually be better than using an under-geared or non-DPS character as you’ll have better luck fighting your way into an area to collect treasures along the way. So ultimately, it’s up to you how you want to go about this, but keep these points in mind while making up your plans.

Preparation to Explore Draenor

To start, pick the zone you are going to focus on and plug in the TomTom way-points I have listed below for each zone. Use the tabbed menu to pick the zone you are going to explore and the way-points I have listed can be copy and pasted into your WoW window. Just highlight and copy the text, go into your game, press the Enter key and then press Ctrl + V (to paste) the copied text. It will then make a green dot on your main map and the TomTom arrow will appear on your screen with the direction that way-point is from where you are right now and will show you how far you need to travel.

I suggest plugging in all the way-points you need to go to. Then open your main map and find the closest way-point to where you are at or a flight point you are going to start at and right click on it and select “Set as way-point arrow” which will make the arrow then point out that way-point. Once you reach the way-point, it will automatically remove the way-point and move to the next closest way-point. However I do suggest that you look at your map after each arrival to ensure you are actually going to the next one you want to go to. Just because the way-point is closest doesn’t mean you can get to it easily. Sometimes the way-point is across a large canyon so even though it’s 400 yards away, you might need to travel across the zone to get there which makes another way-point better to go to next.

While running around, make sure you have the HandyNotes icons turned on in your mini-map so while you’re running around, you can spot easy to get treasures. This will make your exploration time that much more efficient. Plus, you’ll be getting some gold and garrison resources as well which never hurts.

Completing Explore Draenor

Explore Draenor

Once you’ve finished up a zone move onto the next zone with the same steps as above. I suggest, if you can, exploring Gorgrond with someone that has the opposite zone perk as you. I say this because you can loot their uncovered treasures and they can loot yours. So if you have the shredder and they have the other perk, when you uncover a treasure with your shredder they can loot the purple box and get the resources AND credit toward Master Treasure Hunter as well, which is huge because finding 100 treasures isn’t as easy as you might think as they don’t all count.
